「Tachijyuu sono」 Enjoy cutlass fish cuisine with gusto in Osaka.
「Tachijyuu sono」 is a Cutlass fish speciality shop in Osaka. It’s very rare to see a restaurant specialize in Cutlass fish and it`s even rare in Japan. As soon as the restaurant opens there are long line ups for the「Tachijyuu」 lunch. Lunch is limited to only 40 servings each day. Some people say the cutlass fish is as good as Unagi(eel) but cheaper and leaner.
This time I went for a set dinner menu including the popular 「Tachijyuu」.
They offer set menus at the price of either ¥2,000 or ¥2,500. If you make a reservation the day before they can prepare a meat dish or other dishes too.
I ordered the ¥2,500 set menu ( inc.tax ¥2,700)!
I saw a sign on the wall saying that you can even get the signature dish 「Tachijyuu」as take-out !
Draft beer(amber YEBISU)¥ 550
Curry flavoured duck meat
Though I have never tasted duck with curry it was surprisingly delicious.
A cutlass fish roll
The cutlass fish inside had a nice grilled flavour and texture to it as well.
Chouchin summer JUN (half size) ¥400
(Chochin is a Sake brewery in Aichi prefecture and was established in the year 1868)
This Sake has nice dry taste and compliments the food.
They served octopus caught in Sensyuu (sea of Southern Osaka area) Osaka province
It goes great with lemon and a pinch of salt.
Sea bream caught in Akashi area is known to be the best in Japan.
Again I ate it with lemon and salt. The skin of the seam bream had a nice lightly grilled taste to it.
Yokowa ( young pacific bluefin tuna)
It tasted light and again they grilled the skin to perfection.
Not many places offer Cutlass fish Sashimi (raw fish)! Oh my goodness it’s so good! The skin has a nice texture, the meat is firm and sweet.
Owner’s Bachiatari( blend) ¥150
The owner blended a different kind of Sake. It’s so cheap so I ordered it out of curiosity. It was surprisingly good!
The broth is made with Katsuo(bonito fish) and Kombu(kelp). I could just drink as it is. So good.
Don’t wait too long. Once it`s cooked, start eating immediately!
I could taste the freshness of the ingredients! Fresh ingredients make everything taste good!
They have homemade Shichimi(chilis and spice mix). Make sure you use some!
They usually use left over bones from the fillet. It makes a nice yummy snack.
Tachijyuu
Here it comes! Tachijyuu (grilled cutlass fish rice bowl)
I’ve been waiting for this moment.
It exceeded my expectations. The meat of the cutlass fish was so fluffy, it was grilled over a charcoal fire.
The sauce was perfectly sweet and salty. I couldn’t help but keep eating the rice. They removed the small bones, so it was easy to eat. Tachiuo (Cutlass fish) tastes leaner and much lighter than Unagi(eel) and it`s much cheaper. No wonder everyone loves this fish.
I asked for some broth to top off my rice bowl. It made a refreshing change in taste!
Miso soup
It was full of flavour.
White peach sorbet for dessert.
I feel completely refreshed now.
I finished my meal with a cup of green tea. I was so satisfied with the hospitality shown through the beautiful cuisine.
