If You Want to Enjoy Hyogo’s Specialty Dish “Akashiyaki” in Osaka, We Recommend “Takohachi”!
“Akashiyaki” is the specialty dish of Akashi City in Hyogo Prefecture. It is made by wrapping octopus in a dough made from ingredients like egg and flour, and locals also call it “tamagoyaki.” It looks very similar to takoyaki. If you’re looking to try akashiyaki while in Osaka, “Takohachi” is a great choice! It is located right near Tennoji Station.
I arrived this time right around noon, and there was already a line forming.
I usually hate waiting in line, but I decided to bite the bullet for the sake of some “akashiyaki” and queued up.
The menu includes akashiyaki, takoyaki, and okonomiyaki.
From left to right, there were mitsuba, ginger, and green onion.
Piping hot dashi is indispensable when eating akashiyaki.
Unlike takoyaki, akashiyaki is eaten dipped in dashi.
Akashiyaki 8pcs – 680 yen
Since akashiyaki is so tender, it’s hard to hold it with chopsticks, and the inside is deliciously gooey. The aroma from the mitsuba was also a pleasant addition, making an explosion of super-yummy flavors in my mouth!
The octopus inside was big and pleasantly chewy.
Next I tried adding green onion to the dashi and sprinkling plenty of shichimi pepper on the akashiyaki.
Ginger also makes for a great topping; you can’t go wrong!
I’d had akashiyaki many times in Hyogo Prefecture, its place of origin, but the akashiyaki here tasted just as delicious and authentic!
