In Osaka, there is a sushi restaurant gaining popularity as a place where the freshest seafood toppings from the Sea of Japan can be enjoyed. I went to visit this sushi shop, located inside Suita Green Place, a shopping center in Suita city.

Prices start from ¥120 per plate of the freshest seafood toppings from the Sea of Japan.

I arrived at around 5:00 pm, a little early for dinner. There was no line, so I was seated immediately.

Recently, many conveyor-belt sushi shops have introduced a tablet computer ordering system, just like what I saw in front of me. Of course, you don't have to use the tablet, and you can just take the sushi that passes in front of you.

The Meal

Smoked Mackerel Salad ¥560

First, I ordered a rather unusual salad.

There was a lot of smoked mackerel hiding beneath the vegetables.
Since smoked mackerel has a texture and flavor similar to that of prosciutto, it was like a carpaccio.
The fish and soy-sauce dressing they use, made in the Oku-Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, is a perfect match for the mackerel. It was so delicious!

Next, it was time to start ordering sushi!

Three Types of White Fish (Bigfin Reef Squid from the Noto Peninsula, Shore Plover, Toyama White Shrimp Battleship) ¥760

First, I started with the typical toppings of Kanazawa.

Toyama White Shrimp Battleship

So many shrimps were placed on top of this sushi that I couldn't count them. Their tender texture felt so good to chew as their refined sweetness filled my mouth.

Shore Plover

With just the right amount of fat, the thickness of the meat of this bird was really satisfying.
However, some people might prefer eating shore plover pan-seared.

Gasu-Ebi Shrimp ¥460

Since gasu-ebi is a type of shrimp that can only be tasted in the Hokuriku region of Japan, I was very happy to eat it in Osaka. Although it looked bad, the taste was excellent. Sweeter than the sweet ama-ebi variety of shrimp, it featured a viscous mouthfeel.

Japanese Egg Cockle ¥380

This is a topping I have enjoyed since childhood. Its characteristic elasticity and umami make it so tasty!

Of course, the delicious fatty and medium-fatty tunas melted in my mouth. However, just as I expected, the rich flavor and thickness of the red flesh tuna really satisfied me!

Thick Kaga Cucumber Nigiri ¥180

After eating the fatty tuna, my mouth was full of oil, so I ordered this to cleanse the palate. The thick cucumber of Kaga, grown in Kanazawa, had a particular crispness and consistency that made it taste so good.

Fatty Mackerel Sushi ¥380

The mackerel in the salad was delicious, so I ordered this one, too.
With the sourness of the sushi rice and the pickled ginger placed between it and the mackerel, the combination of their respective types of umami was very good!
However, there was so much sushi rice that it backfired, and I suddenly got full.

I wanted to eat even more...

The Engawa Battleship for Adults ¥180

Since it passed right before my eyes, this was my final choice.
Engawa is the meat of a flatfish found at the base of its fin. It was sweet and had a chewy mouthfeel. The wasabi stalk inside offered a nice, spicy accent!

This time, it took about 30 minutes from the time I entered the restaurant to when I paid the bill. There were a lot more sushi toppings I wanted to try, but unfortunately, my stomach was full!

Outside the restaurant, there was a line of people sitting and waiting to enter. It seems like they had to wait about an hour. This is a place I'd like to visit again!
