Fishing and BBQing to your Heart’s Content atop a Raft on the Uchinoumi Waters!
This scenic escape on the Uchinoumi waters will take you to a rafting rig floating across the sea. The waters here are tucked between Shimada and Oge Islands and were once known for their bustling pearl farming. Today you can use the same farming rigs as an exclusive fishing and BBQ spot on the sea! Catch a fish and throw it directly on the grill, catch up on some reading or just enjoy a time out to bask and relax. For ocean lovers, this escape is for you!
Roundtrip Pick-up Service means Virtually Hands-Free Travel to the Rig!
Your day will kick off by meeting at AoAwo Naruto Resort, a hotel with swooping views of the Naruto Strait and Onaruto Bridge. You’ll begin with a brief overview by the instructor about safety, what to expect on the raft, and what’s included in the fishing and BBQ set. Then it’s time to head out to the raft. You’ll take an approx. 10 min. drive from the hotel to the bay and board a boat. This boat provides roundtrip pick up and drop off to the raft so you only need to bring absolutely necessary items with you. Along the way you can learn about what fish are available that season, the tides, and inside tips on fishing. This is a perfect chance to ask any questions you may have.

Once on the rafting rig, its time to get straight into fishing! You will be provided a Sabiki rod so that its easy to fish, even at a novice level. If you need extra help, the instructor can show you what to do to get you on your way. From April on you’ll find black sea bream, snapper and sea bass. From July you can find horse mackerel and Japanese halfbeak, while in September the local yellowtail come into season. On a day like this, there’s plenty of plankton in the water which makes for excellent fishing. Despite that, you may spend 20 minutes quietly waiting without catching a thing. Don’t give up! In our case a school of sardines showed up, making for a stellar catch of sardines!
BBQ Feels Completely Different on the Water! Grill Your Fresh Catch on the Spot!
After fishing it’s time to get to grilling. In addition to all the tools, you’ll be glad to know there’s a heaping amount of beef, pork, chicken, vegetables and rice balls included in your BBQ set. We took our sardines and grilled them on the spot. You won’t believe how much more delicious everything seems when you’re surrounded by the open water! Even if you don’t grill your fish right there, you can take your catch back to AoAwo Naruto Resort in the cooler and have a pro chef cook everything up for you (Additional charges apply). Once BBQ time is over, you can try your hand at fishing again, sit back and catch up on some reading or anything you like in this one-of-a-kind experience.
