Jizo-In possesses some of the leading cultural and natural assets in Saitama Prefecture.
Its ancient history is said to go back to the Heian Era (794-1185 AD).
In the Edo era (1603-1868), 17 main and branch temples were contained within a compound of over 30,000 square meters.
Besides Ryoen Jizoson, a Bodhisattva dedicated to marriage ties, you can see a statue of Acala (the Buddhist wisdom King known as “Fudo-Myo-o” in Japan) that was carved 800 years ago. There is also a type of laurel tree called “Tabu-no-ki”, dating back about 600 years, with a trunk measuring 6 meters around.
In addition, Jizo-in is famous for being the family temple of Kodani Sanshi, a monk and educator who brought the first woman to the peak of Mount Fuji. A temple festival is held in his honor on the 28th of every month.
