Jizo-in Temple

Jizo-in Temple is home to some of Saitama Prefecture’s most notable cultural properties and natural features. Its long history is said to date back to the Heian period (794–1185). During the Edo period (1603–1868), it was reportedly a large temple with 17 branch temples and an estate covering more than 24.5 acres. Visitors can see the Ryōen Jizō statue associated with matchmaking, a statue of Fudō Myōō carved about 800 years ago, and a roughly 600-year-old tabunoki tree with a trunk circumference of about 20 feet. The temple is also known as the family temple of Kotani Sanshi, who helped a woman become the first to reach the summit of Mount Fuji. A temple fair is held on the 28th of every month.
