Yashima

Yashima is located in the northeastern part of Takamatsu City. It is designated as Setonaikai (Seto Inland Sea) National Park, as well as National Historic Site and Natural Monument.
The island resembles a large roof, which is covered by a horizontal hard rock layer called “Mesa”, and precipitous cliffs partially surround the area around a tabular highland. It is also famous as the historical site of the “Genpei War” (1180-1185).

The highest point is about 300 meters, and it is about 5 kilometers north to south and about 2 kilometers to the east to west.
There are several observation decks atop the mountain where one can overlook Takamatsu City and the Seto Inland Sea archipelago. The beauty is such that it is chosen as one of the “Top 100 Sunsets in Japan”, “Top 100 Night Views” and “Japan 100 Moon” (Top 100 most beautiful moon views). One can also overlook the main battlefield, Dan-no-ura from the Dankorei Observation Deck.
There are also tourist attractions on the summit such as Yashimaji (Yashima temple) and an aquarium.
