Kawagoe Matsuri Kaikan is a facility that introduces the history and highlights of the Kawagoe Festival, one of the three major festivals held in Saitama every October. The building has two floors. On the first floor, you can see how the festival is prepared and the thoughts of the people involved.
The main attraction is the exhibition hall with its open atrium. Two floats that are actually used at the festival are displayed. It's nice to see the gorgeous decorations and detailed carvings up close, which is not easy to do during the festival. Do not hesitate to ask the staff if you have any questions.
Ohayashi (Traditional Festival Music) performances are held on Sundays and holidays. You can enjoy the unique rhythm and sound of the festival, twice a day, at 1:30 and 2:30 pm. If you happen to visit around these times, you might check it out. On the second floor, they introduce the history of festivals and musical performances. You can see valuable videos and documents.
