It is a rare aquarium in the world specializing in deep-sea species, located near Numazu Port, about 15 minutes by bus from JR Numazu Station. As may be expected of being expert, it has the largest number of deep-sea species exhibitions in Japan.
Among them, five coelacanths which are considered as living fossils are exhibited including frozen individuals which are rare in the world. You are able to see the frozen state just as it is and are able to experience things that cannot be felt anywhere else such as the texture in the mouth of coelacanths and their scales. There is also an exhibition of species living in Suruga Bay which is the deepest in Japan with a depth of 2500 m and unique deep-sea species collected from all over the world.
There is no show like other aquariums, and it is interesting just to look around the unique exhibits specializing in deep-sea species such as Bathynomus giganteus and Opisthoteuthis depressa as well as the hall that captured the deep-sea image.
At the museum shop in the hall, character goods such as coelacanths and deep-sea species such as the most popular Bathynomus giganteus and Opisthoteuthis depressa as well as sweets are sold.
At the restaurants and the retail stores in the Minato 83 Banchi , where the aquarium is located, you are able to get a discount service. After seeing the deep-sea fish in the same facility, you may enjoy seafood.
