Daio Wasabi Farm
Surrounded by the rich nature of Azumino, Japan’s biggest Wasabi farm is where melted snow is gushing from the northern Alps.
The biggest Wasabi farm started cultivating in 1917. 120 thousand tons of melted snow at an average of 13℃ is gushing every day from the northern Alps at a huge farm of about 15 hectares, in which Wasabi is cultured. The water of Tadegawa river is pure and 3 watermills are alongside the river, which makes fantastic scenery. The best time to view Wasabi blossoms is from the middle of March to April. A promenade is well prepared so you will enjoy exploring while relaxing around the beautiful scenery of Wasabi farm.
Inside the farm, 3 eating facilities, “Yusui Meshigama Daioan”, “Restaurant Oasis”, and “DAIO’s CAFE”, are established. Try some flavorful original dishes with the best fresh Wasabi.
It is the only place to taste dishes with freshly-harvested and fully-used Wasabi. Don’t miss a soft ice cream with genuine Wasabi for 390 yen which tastes well with balanced sweetness and spiciness.
Many souvenirs are there. The most popular item is raw Wasabi, but also kinds of strange processed products with Wasabi are available in selections, such as sweets, dressings, and cheese flavored Wasabi in this souvenir shop. Grated raw Wasabi in a tube of 1000 yen or wasabi sauce of 480 yen is a perfect matching for meat dishes.
