Tennoji Zoo

Tennoji Zoo opened on January 1st, 1915 and had its 100th anniversary in 2015. Almost 180 species and 1000 animals are kept in about 11 hectares of the zoo. In the reptile house, "Ifar," and in “African Savanna Zone” where hippopotamus, giraffes, and lions live, the ecological exhibition introduces reproduced scenery of animals’ habitats as closely as possible.

In “African Savanna Zone” , there are animals living in the Savanna of Africa such as giraffes and lions, and there are houses for wolves, tigers, and small animals such as Tibetan wol ves, Amur tiger s, condor s, and Styan's Lesser panda s. In “Asian Tropical Rainforest Zone” , there are homes for nocturnal animals, monkeys and baboon s, and chimpanzee s. Japanese deer are also living here.　

There is a home for 7 species of crane , as well as Chilean flamingos and white stork s. In “Friendship Square ,” you can touch animals such as emu and sheep . In the bear house, popular polar bear s and the other 2 species live.

Many events take place in the zoo. For example, feeding experience In “Friendship Square ” or a limited-time event, “Night Zoo.” Enjoy a variety of events throughout the year.
