Ikaho Shrine
An ancient shrine said to have been founded during the reign of Emperor Suinin, the 11th emperor of Japan. It sits at the very top of the Ikaho Onsen stone steps street in Gunma Prefecture. In the past, it was cherished as one of the Three Shrines of Kōzuke Province, along with Nukisaki Shrine in Tomioka and Akagi Shrine on Mt. Akagi. It seems it was originally located elsewhere, but is said to have moved near Ikaho’s hot spring source and come to be enshrined as the guardian deity of the hot springs.
The shrine itself isn’t big, but the location is amazing. From up there you can look out over the entire hot spring town plus the mountain views.
