Kimono Forest
A photogenic art space that resembles a bamboo grove with Kyoto-Yuzen.
The plaza is located in the corner of "Arashiyama Station Hannari Hokkori Square." Six hundred brightly colored poles decorated with Kyoto-Yuzen designs line the square. The poles are placed in the square and on the station platform, and by the tracks, making the entire Arashiyama Station look like a work of art. The facilities include restaurants, souvenir stores, and a footbath (250 yen), making it a relaxing place for tourists.
“Kimono Forest” is designed by designer Yasumichi Morita. Acrylic poles wrapped with Kyoto Yuzen dyed by Kamedatomi dyed factory, a long-established dyer since the Taisho era (1912-1926), are arranged to look like a forest. There are a total of 32 different patterns, and the area is crowded with people who enjoy strolling and taking commemorative photos while finding their favorite design.
At the end of the "kimono path" lined with colorful poles on both sides is the "Dragon Atago-ike pond, "known as a power spot. If you soak your hands in the water, then your mind will be filled with peacefulness and led to happiness.
Every day from after sunset to 9:00 p.m., LED lights embedded in the poles are turned on. Visitors can enjoy a different fantastic atmosphere than during the daytime, as The pale light of the lights illuminates Kyoto Yuzen.
