Ryuzu no Taki (Ryuzu Waterfall)
One of the three most famous waterfalls in Oku-Nikko, named "Ryuzu-no-taki" (Dragon's Head Waterfall) because of its resemblance to a dragon's head.
Ryuzu Waterfall is located on the Yukawa River that flows into Lake Chuzenji. It is a waterfall that flows 210 meters over the lava formed by the eruption of Mount Fuji. The waterfall is said to have been named "Ryuzu-no-taki" (Dragon's Head Waterfall) because the area near the waterfall basin is bisected by a large rock, which resembles the head of a dragon.
From May to June, the reddish-purple azaleas bloom, and from late September, the area is crowded with tourists enjoying the autumn leaves. In particular, the colored leaves are said to be the earliest in Nikko City, and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of maple trees and linden trees. The view from the Kanbaku-dai (viewing platform) in front of the waterfall, where the waterfall basin is decorated with autumn leaves, is spectacular.
In winter, you can also see the wonderful frozen waterfalls. It is also close to the bus stop, making it easy to access.
