One of the sightseeing areas that must be visited at Gero Hotsprings, " Gero Onsen Gassho-mura," is an important open-air museum where valuable gassho-style private houses are relocated and gathered from the world heritage site Shirakawa-go.

The village is made up of two zones: "Gassho no Sato" where the old-style living of the village could be seen, and "Saijiki no Mori" where seasonal flowers and wildflowers are in full bloom.

The "Gassho no Sato" is a reproduction of the nationally designated important cultural property, "Former Oto Family Residence,” with 10 gassho houses to replicate the village. In addition to "Old Iwasaki Family,” a nationally registered tangible cultural property open to the public as a folk museum displaying farm tools and folk tools, there is a hands-on workshop where you can experience making pottery and Japanese paper, as well as the Enkukan, a collection of Enku Buddha, the Hida Takahashi Shrine, which enshrines the god of cooking, and foot baths and restaurants at Gero Onsen.

If you would like to leisurely enjoy the nature of the mountain village, take a trip to "Saijiki no Mori". You can experience the seasonal atmosphere of cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, and autumn leaves while strolling through the forest, A stop-by would be nice at the 175m long roller slider, old folk house cafes, and the "Kaeru Shrine" where frogs are enshrined as gods.
