Ekimachi Terrace Nagahama
A shopping mall directly connected to JR Nagahama Station offering unique stores and restaurants and promoting the tourism and culture of Nagahama City and Lake Biwa.
Ekimachi Nagahama is a shopping mall directly connected to JR Nagahama Station, housing 24 stores and restaurants. The Nagahama Kurashi Note Store created by Nagahama Life Culture Labo is a museum-like store showcasing the life in Nagahama and selling products only found in Nagahama or only made by a particular person. Ekimachi Nagahama accommodates other specialized stores as well, such as the QUON Chocolate Nagahama Store for chocolates made by welfare agency workers from all over Japan.
The first floor features a small aquarium from Lake Biwa, Osakana Labo, showcasing the fish species and marine life of Lake Biwa. It presents about 100 live sea creatures of 30 species including ornamental fish, all without any entrance fee. Don't miss the endemic species of the Lake Biwa, for example, Iwatako catfish, honmoroko, biwa mussel, Japanese bitterling, and gengoro-buna.
Also, next to the Osakana Labo is the "Tour Center" operated by the Nagahama Tourist Association. The center provides tourist information on Nagahama's history, culture, delicacies, and specialties, and facilitates a travel reception desk. On the same floor, a blue public piano, the "Forel 1," has been installed for anyone to freely play.
In addition, there are the Green Terrace, an outdoor space prepared for small children, and an event plaza on the third floor where interesting events are held mainly on weekends. When no events are taking place, visitors are free to relax on the spacious semi-outdoor terrace.
On the fourth floor, there is an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of Mount Ibuki and Lake Biwa, providing visitors a time to take a break and relax.
