Japan’s first alpaca farm was opened in 1999 on Nasu Plateau, where the climate is similar to that of the alpaka’s habitat, humid plateaus in South American Andes. On the vast 110,000m² premises, about 230 alpacas are kept in the 25,000m² caring zones.

Fluffy hair, long eyelashes and big round eyes make you want to hug them. They look like stuffed animals that soothe you. “Fureai Plaza” lets you touch their soft fur yourself and feed them.

The fur grows about 1cm a month. By the 1st week of May, their fur is the longest. Aim to visit them during the Golden Week! Before hot summer comes, farmers begin shearing alpacas in late May.

Alpacas have mouths turned up as if they are smiling. Get closer and feel their adorable expressions.
