The JR Tadami Line runs for 135,2km between Aizuwakamatsu Station in Fukushima and Koide Station in Niigata. It runs through the Tadami River valley in the deep mountains, providing beautiful seasonal scenery from the train windows, including cherry blossoms in spring, greenery in summer, autumn leaves in autumn, and snow in winter.
Although it is a local line with a single track and mostly unmanned station, it is always ranked high in popularity polls and is well-known for its spectacular view.
The Tadami Line’s charm is the beautiful scenery created by the harmony of the trains, bridges, and the Tadami River valley. Among the many scenic spots along the line, the Daiichi Tadami River Bridge is the most popular. Along Route 252, there is a perfect photo spot where you can capture the harmony of valleys that change color with the seasons, the jade green water of the Tadami River, and the beautiful arched bridges and trains. Sometimes the fog creates a fantastic atmosphere.
The train also provides a variety of entertainment, such as audio guides that introduce the highlights while the train travels slowly through scenic sites and local goods for sale. For a limited time, a trolley train with no windows is also available. (With windows installed from October.)
