Fudenosato kobo

"The Kumano brush" is a traditional craft that boasts the largest production volume in Japan. "The Kumano brush" is known not only for their calligraphy and painting brushes but also for their makeup brushes, which world-famous makeup artists highly praise. The "Fude no Sato Kobo" exhibits materials related to the history and culture of Kumano-town's brush making, which has a history of about 180 years, as well as exhibits and workshops where you can learn more about the charm of the brush.

In the museum's "Fudeshi no Ie/ Home of the brush master," traditional craftsmen demonstrate how to make brushes. It is interesting to learn about the process of making a brush through demonstrations.
It is also possible to participate in a brush-making workshop where you can experience two of the several brush-making processes, "winding fine upper hair around the core." and "finishing." (Registration from 10:00am to 3:30pm, 60 minutes, 3,500 yen) If you make a reservation at least one week in advance, you can have your name engraved on the shaft of the brush.

There is also a museum store that sells goods related to the exhibition and a Kumano brush select store. The select store has about 1,500 kinds of calligraphy brushes, painting brushes, and makeup brushes, making it the perfect place to pick up souvenirs. There is also a cafe and a restaurant where you can spend a whole day enjoying the Kumano brushes.
