On the 3rd Monday in July, Shiogama Minato Festival is held, which is one of Japan’s Three Great Boat Festivals. The marine festival was started to wish for the recovery of Shiogama’s industry and to cheer up the citizens. The portable shrines of Shiwahiko and Shiogama Shrines are loaded onto Gozabune (barge) and sails in Matsushima Bay, followed by stunning 100 decorated boats.
