Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewery Museum
The museum collected "Nada-based Sake Brewery's Equipment," a nationally designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property. And visitors can learn about the history of sake brewing.
The Nada area in the Hanshin region has long been active in sake brewing, and there are many long-established sake breweries in the so-called "Nada Gogo" area. Many operate exhibition facilities and directly managed stores where sake tasting is available, and events are often held to take visitors on a tour of the breweries.
The Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewery Memorial Hall was opened in 1960. The museum was built in 1659 in the main residence of the Hon Kano family, the founding family of Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewery. It was moved to the new building to exhibit sake brewing tools and other items. However, the building was destroyed in the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995. Fortunately, many of the items in the collection survived, and the building was rebuilt and reopened in 1999.
In the memorial hall, visitors can learn about the history and culture of sake brewing by viewing the "Nada Sake Brewing Tools," designated as Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties of Japan. Of course, there is also a store and sake tasting corner, selling not only sake but also original goods, sake Manju (a Japanese sweet made with bean paste), and sake brewery ice cream.
