The largest aquarium in Tohoku Region near Sendai Port, which was opened in 2015 as “the aquarium to symbolize a recovery.” Creatures around Sanriku Coast and the world are displayed. “Sparkling of Life” by the entrance is a huge aquarium 14m-wide, 7.5m-tall and reaches the 2nd floor, created in the image of Sanriku Sea. Nearly 30,000 creatures in 50 species are elegantly swimming there. Umino-Mori Stadium with a capacity of 1,000 seats offers the popular dolphin, sea lion and bird show.

Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium is also known for raising Blue Shark which is also caught around the Sanriku Coast. They live in the warm oceans all over the world and are used for fish cake and shark fin dishes. It is supposed to be difficult to farm them, but the Aquarium has made the longest record of raising Blue Shark in Japan - 873 days.

A shuttle bus goes from Nakanosakae Station to the aquarium every half an hour. For a detailed schedule, check the website.
