Aso Panorama Line
A scenic drive along a magical carpet green.
Aso-Panorama Line is the 37-km long scenic route in the center of the Mount Aso caldera that runs the north, west and south routes towards the 5 mountains of Aso. All three directions of the path meet in the midde, making their way towards Aso Sanjo Public Square. Here you’ll find unrivaled views of the Somma volcano, and the wide open green of the great outdoors as you discover the best scenic spots of Aso.
JR Aso Station serves as the starting point of the Bochu central highway, Prefectural Road 111, that stretches from the north. First it’ll take you over Kusasenri to a series of winding roads. The “Akamizu” road that stretches from the west (Prefectural Road 298) was started as Aso Farm Land, and is home to Komezuka, the volcanic cone nearby. The Yoshida Line, as it stretches from the south (Prefectural Road 111), will bring you north past the village of Minamiaso, towards a out of this world view of the mountain cliffs. For visitors to Aso, this is the best drive to enjoy its scenic tourism.
