The coral reef tank at Echizen Matsushima Aquarium is truly one-of-a-kind! The tank is completely transparent, so you can actually walk above the fish and watch them from above. This kind of tank is only found at Echizen Matsushima Aquarium in all of Japan!

Echizen Matsushima
A scenic spot along the coastline northeast of Tojinbo.
Because the beautiful landscape of little islands resembled Matsushima in Rikuzen (Miyagi Prefecture), this scenic site was named "Echizen Matsushima". Located on the coast northeast of Tojinbo, a famous national natural treasure, the magnificent rocky cliffs can be seen from between peaceful fishing villages.
The world's rare columnar rocks (columnar joints), similar to those found in Tojinbo, as well as unusual rocks such as Ogiiwa (fan rock) and Zaimokuiwa (lumber rock), are breathtaking. Beautiful islets are scattered throughout the area, creating a harmonious beauty reminiscent of a painting. There are several walking trails in the area, including one that allows visitors to hike on a pile of rocks across a stone bridge and another that allows them to explore the remains of a sea cave, allowing them to get up close and personal with a variety of strange rocks and caves.
The Echizen Matsushima Aquarium, located right next door, is a hands-on aquarium that both adults and children can enjoy, with a "Sango no Umi" (coral reef) tank with beautiful tropical fish swimming beneath your feet, dolphin shows and other attractions, and fish petting and feeding experiences, allowing you to become familiar with marine life while admiring the spectacular scenery of Echizen Matsushima.
