Shiroyama Park / Meikyodo Cave (Shiroyama Beach)

A scenic park where you can enjoy fishing, swimming, and strolling while taking in beautiful cave views.

Last update :

Takahama Castle was built by the Sengoku warlord Henmi Masatsune. Shiroyama Park, developed on the former castle site, is a scenic spot facing Wakasa Bay.

The main attraction is a group of eight caves known as the "Eight Scenic Caves," formed by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. One of them, Meikyodo Cave, is said to have been named for the beautiful view seen through the opening, like another world reflected in a mirror, and it is also said that Ashikaga Yoshimitsu once visited to enjoy the scenery.

At the center of the park is a spacious lawn area. In spring, it is known as a famous cherry blossom spot that attracts many visitors. Walking paths are also set up on Mt. Tenno and Mt. Shiroyama within the park, and the views from the observatory of Wakasa Bay, unusual rock formations, and the beautiful sunset sinking behind Mt. Aoba are also worth seeing.

In summer, the beach opens for swimming. The calm waters make it especially popular with families with small children. The beach and the rocky area on the north side are also well known as fishing spots, so visitors can enjoy the area in their own way.
