The Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum
Home to rare documents detailing the life and works of Sakamoto Ryoma.
Sakamoto Ryoma is a local patriot who had a large hand in reinstating imperial rule via the Meiji government, as well as mediating the Satsuma-Choshu alliance during the Bakumatsu period, the end of the feudal shogunate era. At this memorial hall the rich history and life works of Sakamoto Ryoma towards the end of the Bakumatsu era can be experience through all the thrills of sound and animation.
Inside the museum you’ll find a number of exhibits, showing precious documents and personal letters that even fans new and old will find fascinating. The letters show a very intimate discourse as he shared humor with friends and family, as well as his true thoughts regarding a new Japan and its policies.
In addition there’s the remarkable statue of Sakamoto Ryoma as created by master craftsman Kakiemon Sakaida the 12th, and even a pistol in the same model and make as the one Ryoma used.
At the Umi no Mieru Gallery you’ll find several different exhibits on display by the swooping view of the Pacific Ocean. Once you venture to the roof, you’ll find a view unlike any other and the fresh sea breeze to greet you.
Four times a year there are scheduled events, bringing in new sights to enjoy when you visit.
