Kitagawa Village “Monet’s Garden” Marmottan
Lose yourself in a journey of beauty and impressionism.
This garden was modeled lovingly after a garden that Monet cherished in Giverny, France. It was recreated under guidance of the Monet Foundation and is the only place in the world will full rights to use the nickname “Monet’s Garden”. Inside you’ll find colorful water lilies dancing across the glittering water’s surface, an arched bridge, wisteria trellises, a rose arch and more. The grounds are designed to simulate the feeling of walking through a Monet painting in the flesh.
The biggest sight you won’t want to miss is the Water Garden where a gorgeous spread of colorful water lilies await in full bloom. Around the pond you’ll find wisteria, willow, cherryblossoms and other trees beloved across Japan, making for a vibrant wash of reds, yellow and blues. The garden fuses Japanese and Western cultural aesthetics, giving off an air of the same Monet that was even influenced by Ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
The Bordighera garden was reopened in 2020 and simply can’t be missed. The garden itself is designed to mimic the paintings Monet drew during his travels to Bordighera in the Mediterranean Sea, all while fully utilizing the unique and natural landscape of this Kitagawa Village spot to the fullest.
The Flower Garden awaits you, boasting seasonal blooms in all their glory across all four seasons. In May especially you’ll find the roses and orange nasturtiums come in bloom with remarkable beauty.
