"Hakata Dontaku" is a festival held on May 3 and 4 every year, during which the city bustles with people. The people who parade around in Dontaku costumes, playing the shamisen, flutes and drums are called "Torimon" in the Hakata dialect, and the name "Hakata Torimon" is derived from this.
Since its establishment in 1929, the long-established store has produced a variety of sweets under the motto of "Commitment to Hakata. The soft white bean paste kneaded with high quality ingredients is wrapped in a skin with the gentle aroma of milk and baked, creating a confectionery that blends Japanese and Western flavors. The melt-in-your-mouth texture can be enjoyed with just one bite, and is probably the first thing many people think of when they think of souvenirs from Hakata. The confectionery has won the Monde Selection gold medal for 25 consecutive years, and its reputation is not only well known throughout Japan, but is also very popular even outside of Japan.
