Fruitsland Shirone Grape Garden
Niigata’s water and earth raised ripe fruits. Now you get to harvest them!
In Niigata, Minami District is known as a fertile farming area, where the Shirone Grape Garden is located. Fruits in seasons are grown with the water from the nearby Shinano River, organic fertilizer and minimum agricultural chemical and made available on this tourist farm.
Strawberries in spring, cherries in summer, grapes and pears in fall, and tangerines in winter. You can pick fruits in any season you come. Everyone’s favorite is the farm’s namesake, grapes. Between late July and early November, more than 30 kinds - famous species such as Kyoho and Shine Muscat or rare varieties - take turns to ripen. The fruits you picked can be purchased by weight or the all-you-can eat course is available for some fruits. There is a sheltered rest area with 1,000 seats, where you can relax regardless of weather and savor the fruits.
The gelato shop on the premises sells gelato and sherbet made of the fruits from the Shirone Farm or from nearby areas. Many of the fruit or vegetable flavored ones are limited to a particular season. It makes you want to try a new flavor on each visit. Children and couples love to visit the area with rabbits and goats. The whole place is like a fun park.
