Tsudaro

Tsudaro, originally an ochaya (tea house) since the late Edo period, was relocated to its current location in the early Taisho period. While retaining the luxurious decor typical of a high-end tea house, it now operates as a restaurant and bar, serving seasonal kaiseki cuisine and drinks.

The spacious dance floor designed for geisha and maiko performances and the ranma (transoms) depicting the Higashiyama Thirty-six Peaks reflect the spirit of hospitality inherent in Gion. Simply being in this space feels indulgent.

For lunch, the colorful "Daytime Fixed Menu" offers an accessible taste of Tsudaro's essence. The dinner service, available by reservation, features the sounds of shamisen and shakuhachi as background music on the first floor (subject to performers' availability). The dinner course, exclusively omakase (chef's choice), consists of four options, each meticulously prepared by skilled chefs using carefully selected seasonal ingredients. The experience is further enhanced by exquisite tableware, including masterpieces from the Meiji and Taisho eras by artists such as Sakaida Kakiemon and Imaizumi Imaemon.

The bar time, featuring a counter made from a single zelkova plank, is popular for its wine and sake. The expert pairing of drinks with dishes is also a highlight.
