The Inn of Waterfalls and Soba: Takimikan
Nestled on a hill a short distance from the heart of Ginzan Onsen, this retreat is a hidden gem of a hot spring inn.
Located slightly away from the bustling heart of Ginzan Onsen, which is brimming with Taisho era charm, this secluded hot spring inn offers an inviting blend of traditional and modern Japanese design. Every room offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains of Ginzan Onsen, creating an enchanting atmosphere enveloped by nature.
The hot springs are available for day-trippers as well. True to the name "Takimikan" (meaning "viewing the waterfall"), its open-air bath provides breathtaking views of the shimmering waterfall below. While soaking, visitors can appreciate the stunning landscapes that change with the seasons - from winter's snowscapes to autumn's colorful leaves and summer's lush greenery. The indoor bathhouse, with its expansive windows, offers an unbeatable sense of openness, allowing bathers to soak in nature's beauty. A short 5-minute walk from the main building is the "Bettei Takimikan," where private baths can be reserved.
The cuisine is another highlight. Originally a soba noodle shop, the inn's signature dish is its homemade hand-rolled soba noodles. Made with buckwheat flour sourced from Obanazawa, these soba noodles have been crafted with a time-honored tradition, emphasizing "freshly ground, freshly made, and freshly boiled." Guests can also savor original dishes created from local ingredients such as Obanazawa beef, mountain vegetables, and sweetfish. Moreover, the inn's specialty soba can be enjoyed at "Soba-ya Taki-mi-tei" located on the first floor of "Bettei Takimikan."
