Okage Yokocho Wakamatsuya
Enjoy freshly handmade kamaboko crafted by skilled artisans every morning.
Founded in 1905 (Meiji 38), Wakamatsuya is a renowned kamaboko (fish cake) shop located near the Ise Jingu shrine. The shop has been dedicated to delivering the deliciousness of fish paste products for over a century. Using high-quality fish made into surimi (fish paste) while fresh and without synthetic preservatives, they extract the natural umami of the fish through traditional methods.
All fried products use rice bran oil, known for its health benefits. The transparent, golden high-grade oil ensures that the kamaboko is carefully fried by skilled artisans who pay close attention to the process.
The signature product, "Ise Hiryozu," is a hearty kamaboko filled with nine different ingredients, including Ise hijiki, kikurage mushrooms, edamame, and carrots. It's a popular choice not only for personal enjoyment but also as a souvenir from an Ise pilgrimage. Other notable items include "Ise Hanpei," made with mountain yam for a perfectly tender texture, and the cute, fish-shaped "Totokama" (Sasa kamaboko). The wide variety of single-serving products makes it perfect for enjoying as a walking snack in Okage Yokocho.
