Yamabiko Observatory
An ideal viewing spot for photographing the trolley train and the stunning Kurobe Gorge.
The Yamabiko Observatory is located close to Unazuki Station, the starting point of the Kurobe Gorge Railway, where you can enjoy a clear view of the Shin-Yamabiko Bridge below. From here, visitors can take in the sight of the trolley train crossing the iconic red iron bridge. Many photographs capturing the moment the trolley train emerges from the tunnel are taken from this spot and frequently appear in posters promoting Kurobe Gorge.
The observatory is so close to the tracks that visitors can hear the sound of the trolley, its whistle, and even announcements from inside the train. In addition to the Shin-Yamabiko Bridge, the view from the observatory includes the Kurobe River and the Unazuki Onsen town. The scenery is especially stunning during the autumn foliage season, drawing many visitors to capture photos.
Since trolley train departures are infrequent, checking the timetable before visiting the observatory is recommended. A timetable is also available at the observatory, allowing you to confirm arrival times at Unazuki Station.
