Iwahashi-kan
Enjoy exquisite flavors made from locally produced soba in Inawashiro.
Named after Mt. Bandai, which looms to the north of Lake Inawashiro and is also referred to as "Iwahashi Mountain," Iwahashi-kan is renowned for its artisanal hand-made soba. Inawashiro Town, located near the store, is one of the leading soba production areas in Eastern Japan. Interestingly, the area beneath the store is an archaeological site where evidence of ancient soba consumption was discovered.
The soba served here is made from stone-ground "Inawashiro Ten no Kaori" produced in Inawashiro, blended with "Yukichikara" wheat flour in an 8:2 ratio, reflecting the deep-rooted soba culture of the region.
The menu ranges from traditional offerings like "Mori Soba", "Kake Soba" and “Tenpura Soba” to regional specialties. Unique dishes such as "Shugen Soba," traditionally served at weddings in the Inawashiro area, and "Go-Dan Soba," which allows for flavor changes with five different types of condiments including walnuts, are highlights. Additionally, local Aizu dishes like "Kozuyu," which features simmered taro and scallops, are also available.
The spacious interior includes a direct sales store offering fresh vegetables, processed goods, and other local products.
