Last update :

Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden, established in 1882 by the Irish trader Samuel Cocking, is a garden that blends the undeniable glory of Western and Japanese aesthetic. With a sprawling 10,000: square meters to explore, the garden is home to a large greenhouse that was regarded the largest in the East at its opening, alongside a hill, pond and flower beds.

Despite undergoing various name changes—from "Enoshima Botanical Garden" to its current name—the garden continues to honor Cocking’s legacy. Today, visitors can enjoy a variety of seasonal flowers including roses, hibiscus, and camellias, along with rare subtropical plants and some of the original plantings by Cocking. The garden is known to draw extra buzz for the famed spectacle of 10,000 tulips during the colder months, which are also lit up at night for a scene of pure magic.

Following renovations completed in 2022, the garden keeps a few new sights under its belt including the Samuel Cocking Greenhouse Ruins exhibit, which showcases the history and remnants of the original greenhouse, and the Fluffy Dome, a large play structure for children that extends all the smiles to visitors of all ages.
