This aquarium is located on the premises of composite facilities, Hakone-en.
It is the only aquarium with a large seawater tank and located at the highest above sea level of 723 m in Japan, which is called “an aquarium built in the forest”.
The building has “Seal Plaza”, “the aquarium”, and more, in which you can watch various fish from around the world.
In “Seal Plaza, you can closely see Baikal Seals which are said to be the only seals living in freshwater in the world. Baikal Seals performance show is held everyday, in which their winsome actions and smooth swimming are one of the highlights.
The highlight of the aquarium is the large water tank with a capacity of 1255 tons and its 7m height. Majestic sea turtles and tropical fish swimming around is surely exciting. The “Underwater Show” held every day presents fish feeding by the divers.
In the area of freshwater fish, you have chances to watch fish inhabiting Lake Ashinoko, a huge fish in the Amazon river, and more.
