Koriyama Castle Ruins

Initiated by the Sengoku daimyo Tsutsui Junkei in 1580 (Tensho 8), it's the largest castle structure in Yamato. In 1585 (Tensho 13), Toyotomi Hidenaga, brother of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, entered the land with one million koku, significantly expanding it. In the early modern period, it flourished as the residence of the Toyotomi, Mizuno, Matsudaira, Honda, and Yanagisawa clans.

More than 400 years after its construction, no castle tower remains today, but the central parts of the castle, including the tenshukaku (main keep) area and Bishamon kaku, are designated as national historic sites, with the inner moat and stone walls well preserved. Recently, structures such as the Otemon gate and Higumi Yagura (corner tower) have been reconstructed, reminiscent of its former glory. The area has been turned into a park with walking paths, providing a space for relaxation for many visitors.

Long known as a cherry blossom spot, in spring, the elegant cherry blossoms decorate the imposing castle ruins, offering a scenic landscape. The "Castle Festival," held during the cherry blossom season, features various events including historical parades and night cherry blossom viewings.
