Hanabi um Fireworks Tradition Museum
A facility where you can learn about, understand, and experience fireworks.
Opened in 2018 in a city famous for Omagari no Hanabi, the National Fireworks Competition where pyrotechnicians compete with their creations. Through introductions to the history of fireworks, explanations of how they work and how they are made, and a virtual tour of a factory, it plays a role in passing on the traditional culture of fireworks to the next generation.
After learning about types of fireworks and the history of fireworks, head to the hands-on area. At the Hanabi Theater, you can watch stunning fireworks footage on four multi-screens, enjoying a powerful and beautiful collaboration of light, and feel as if you’re at a fireworks festival. At the Hanabi Creative Workshop, you can experience designing and launching your own original fireworks on a screen using models, bringing you closer to what it feels like to be a pyrotechnician.
There is also an exhibit of a replica of Omagari no Hanabi created by Japan’s leading silhouette artist Seiji Fujishiro (the original is at the Seiji Fujishiro Museum in Tochigi Prefecture). Captivated by the colorful fireworks artwork brought to life through silhouette techniques, the image of a fireworks festival spreads in your mind.
Once you’ve learned and experienced enough to spark your imagination, try planning a visit to Omagari no Hanabi, the National Fireworks Competition held every year in late August.
