One of the signature wetlands in Tsugaru Quasi-National Park, known for its elevation of Approx. 66 ft and an area of Approx. 57 acres. It’s located along the coast of Aomori Prefecture.

In 1983, it was selected as one of Japan’s “100 Natural Landscapes to Preserve for the 21st Century.” You’ll quickly see why once you visit. In early June, daylilies (Nikkōkisuge) reach their best season and bloom all around, spreading a view like a carpet of gold. Around early July, the season shifts to wild irises (Nohana Shōbu), and the area’s colors change from yellow to purple. Many other plants also thrive here, letting you enjoy a beautiful natural panorama.

Many wild birds also visit, including the “phantom wild bird” Ruddy Kingfisher, the Oriental Reed Warbler, the Black-browed Reed Warbler, and the Chestnut-eared Bunting. Another highlight is that you can observe Approx. 120 species throughout the year, making it a perfect spot for birdwatching.

There’s a walking trail that loops around in Approx. 30 minutes. Along the way, you’ll find an observation deck and an azumaya gazebo, so you can take breaks and enjoy a relaxed stroll.
