Seishi Park

A cherry blossom spot that signals spring in Akita Prefecture.

Last update :

A Approx. 28-hectare park that spreads out with the famed peak “Mt. Chokai,” also known as Dewa Fuji, in the background. Approx. 700 Somei Yoshino and double-flowered cherry trees are planted here, and it’s known as one of the prefecture’s top cherry blossom spots. Peak bloom is usually from early to mid-April, and it’s also popular as one of the earliest places to enjoy cherry blossoms in Akita Prefecture.

The sight of cherry blossoms coloring the calm waters of “Kannon Lagoon” and “Takeshima Lagoon” at the heart of the park, together with snow-capped “Mt. Chokai,” is truly spectacular. The cherry blossom corridor blooming along the edge of “Kannon Lagoon” is also beautiful.

Beyond cherry blossoms, camellias, marubagumi (silverberry), azaleas, and other flowers bloom here, delighting visitors with changing scenery throughout the year. Also, the “tabunoki” (Machilus thunbergii) trees that grow naturally on “Seishi Mountain” (elevation 207 ft) within the park are designated as a prefectural natural monument, as the northernmost grove on the Sea of Japan side.
