A scenic park spanning 8.5 hectares on the Aobayama hills in Sendai. Planted with many cherry trees, it’s known as one of Sendai’s top cherry blossom spots.

During the season, many varieties of cherry blossoms—such as Sato-zakura, Somei Yoshino, Yaezakura, and weeping cherry—color the park. Since each reaches peak bloom at a different time, you can enjoy cherry blossoms for a relatively long period, from mid-April to early May. A cherry blossom festival is usually held in April, with a variety of food stalls and crowds of hanami visitors.

The park has a spacious lawn plaza and is loved year-round as a relaxing spot for Sendai residents. There are also scattered highlights, such as a large settlement site built in the Jomon period and a monument marking the former Army Cadet School site. A grove of pine trees near the entrance to the lawn plaza creates gentle shade and adds a cool, refreshing feel.
