Kitsune no Yomeiri Yashiki
A festival-themed facility where you can enjoy hands-on activities, food, and shopping.
The “Fox Wedding Procession” is held every year on March 3 in the Tsugawa area. In this festival, a bride in a pure white shiromuku wedding kimono with fox makeup leads attendants carrying lanterns, parading along the old road from evening into night, recreating an Edo-period wedding procession. Kitsune no Yomeiri Yashiki, built along the Agano River, is a facility that introduces this local traditional event.
Inside this wooden residence, built on the former site of a magistrate’s office using locally produced cedar and other materials, you’ll find a variety of exhibits and materials about the Fox Wedding. In addition to fox mask painting you can try without a reservation, every Saturday you can also take on a reservation-only experience making zori sandals, trivets, and more through a local traditional craft called nawanai. There’s also a souvenir shop stocked with Fox Wedding goods and Aga Town specialties, plus a cafe space where you can enjoy dishes like a handmade onigiri set meal, letting you fully enjoy Aga Town in this one spot.
When you want to enjoy the scenery, head to the rest area on the second floor or the observation tower on the third. The superb view of the Agano River, Tsunenami River, and Mount Kirin seen through the large windows is not to be missed.
