A live shogi piece demonstration and sales shop located in the heart of the Tendo Onsen hot spring town. Tendo City is famous for producing shogi pieces, and this shop is the oldest-established in the hot spring town.
Inside, you can watch skilled artisans carve characters into shogi pieces up close. The shop displays and sells shogi-related items as well as a variety of souvenirs. There is also an exhibit corner with historical materials about shogi, where you can learn about shogi pieces.
It’s also fun to admire high-quality works by Ikko, a piece-carving artisan, such as “Mikurajima boxwood, premium carving” and “custom decorative pieces.”
You can also join a shogi piece-making experience here. Open to elementary school students and up, it’s reservation-only, but you can create your own original shogi piece by dipping a brush in paint and freely writing letters or drawing pictures on one Approx. 9 cm decorative piece.
