
Yamagata 2-Day, 1-Night Model Itinerary: Rediscover the Region’s Charm: Ginzan Onsen and Tendo, the City of Shogi
On the Sea of Japan side of the Tohoku region, Yamagata Prefecture is shaped by the Mogami River running through its center and surrounded by mountains celebrated as famed peaks. Blessed with rich natural scenery-sea, mountains, and rivers-Yamagata is also home to many tourist attractions and historic temples, including Tsuruoka, where you can enjoy strolling a former castle town; Sakata, which flourished as a port town in the Edo period; and Dewa Sanzan, known as a sacred site of Shugendo. In this article, we introduce a two-day trip featuring Ginzan Onsen, one of Yamagata’s signature hot spring areas, and Tendo, known as the city of shogi.
