Located in Minakami Town, Gunma Prefecture, Michi-no-Eki Takumi-no-Sato offers visitors the chance to experience the traditional lifestyle and culture of rural Japan.
Spread across a vast satoyama landscape equivalent to about 70 Tokyo Domes, the area is home to more than 20 hands-on craft workshops. Visitors can tour a washi workshop to see the traditional papermaking process and even try it themselves, join a mask-making class rooted in local culture, or experience soba-making by kneading and rolling noodles from buckwheat flour.
The site also features a farmers’ market selling fresh local vegetables, fruits, and handmade processed foods. Among the local specialties is Minatsukiyo rice, a Minakami brand variety prized for its rich flavor. Dining options are plentiful, with set meals, soba, and cafés serving sweets made with local ingredients.
Electric bicycles are also available for rent, making it easy to explore every corner of the village. Surrounded by mountains and lush nature, visitors can immerse themselves in Japan’s nostalgic rural scenery at their own pace.
