Taito Cape Lighthouse
Enjoy sweeping views of the Pacific horizon. This lighthouse is also famous as a New Year’s Day sunrise spot.
A lighthouse in Isumi City in southeastern Chiba Prefecture. Located at the southernmost tip of Kujukuri Beach, Taito Cape, also known as the “Northern Gateway,” has a 4.5 km stretch of rugged coastline. The elevation ranges from Approx. 10 m up to a maximum of 68.8 m, and it is also designated as part of Minami-Boso Quasi-National Park.
The lighthouse is a medium-sized circular type and stands 15.9 m tall, with a light that can reach Approx. 41 km. Its shape and colors pair beautifully with the blue sky and sea, making it a popular, photo-worthy spot.
From the plaza by the lighthouse, you can take in a full view of the Pacific horizon. Since the sun rises early here compared to many places in Japan, it’s also well known as a New Year’s Day sunrise spot.
The 360-degree panorama is stunning, and on the side opposite the ocean you’ll see countryside landscapes stretching into the distance, along with lush greenery.
Beyond the views, you can also enjoy seasonal flowers around the lighthouse, such as lilies and daffodils. In August, cosmos reach their peak, and the scenery takes on a vibrant feel depending on the season.
