A refreshing fruit jelly filled with one whole piece of Yamagata-grown cherry.

This jelly confection was planned in 2011 by confectionery maker Taniguchi Bussan Co., Ltd. and launched through wholesalers across Yamagata Prefecture. Each piece wraps one whole Yamagata-grown cherry in jelly made with Yamagata cherry juice, creating a fruity, sweet-tart flavor. It has become a popular souvenir that feels distinctly Yamagata, a place proud to be Japan’s top cherry-producing region.

The bouncy jelly has a refreshing feel, making it especially recommended as a Yamagata souvenir during hot weather. It is delicious as is, but chilling it in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours lets you enjoy an even lighter, more refreshing taste. Please note that the cherry contains a pit.

The price is 870 yen for a box of 6 and 1,620 yen for a box of 12. Since each piece is individually wrapped, it is also ideal as a shareable souvenir. In addition to cherry, there are also Yamagata-grown La France pear and Yamagata-grown Shine Muscat jelly varieties, and the online-exclusive assorted “Yamagata Prefecture Fruit Jelly Kirara Set,” which includes one box of each of the three types, is also popular. It can be purchased at souvenir shops in stations, airports, roadside stations, and other locations in Yamagata Prefecture.

Highlights

  • Jelly filled with a whole Yamagata-grown cherry.
