Saito Seika “Kamome no Tamago”
A signature Iwate sweet known for its unique look and refined flavor.
A signature Iwate confection that has been a popular souvenir staple since its debut in 1951. Moist egg-yolk bean paste is wrapped in castella sponge cake and coated with white chocolate. Shaped like an egg, this sweet is inspired by seagulls flying freely through the natural landscapes of Sanriku.
Made with carefully selected ingredients, including hand-picked white kidney beans for the egg-yolk bean paste, refined white sugar, and wheat flour from northern Tohoku. In addition to the standard size, “Kamome no Tamago” also comes in a mini size, the brand’s most popular option for easy snacking. Another reason for its popularity is its wide lineup, which includes several regular varieties such as apple, chestnut, and chocolate banana-inspired flavors, as well as seasonal limited-edition products made with fresh fruits.
Available at six directly operated stores in Iwate, led by the main store in Ofunato, as well as at train stations, airports, department stores, and large supermarkets. Some products are sold exclusively at directly operated stores or through the online shop, so be sure to stop by when you visit Iwate.
