Located in the heart of Myoban Onsen in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Okamotoya Shop is operated by Okamotoya Ryokan, a long-established inn with a history of over 150 years. Since 1988, the shop has been selling its signature Jigoku-Mushi® Pudding, earning its reputation as the original.

The star attraction is the Jigoku-Mushi® Pudding, made using the traditional jigoku-mushi method, in which food is steamed by natural hot spring steam. It features a rich egg flavor paired with a pleasantly bitter caramel, making it a standout specialty that represents Myoban Onsen.

A teahouse is attached to the shop, allowing visitors to enjoy the pudding on the spot while watching clouds of hot spring steam rise around them. In addition to sweets, the menu includes light meals such as udon, rice dishes, and sandwiches. Nearby are attractions like Myoban Jigoku and several day-use hot spring facilities, making the shop a popular rest stop along scenic driving routes. It’s a place where you can savor Beppu’s food culture while soaking in the distinctive atmosphere of a hot spring town.
