This museum was opened in Nikaho City, Akita Prefecture-birthplace of TDK’s founder-to commemorate the 70th anniversary of TDK, an international electronic components manufacturer operating in about 30 countries worldwide.

For its 80th anniversary, the museum was renamed the TDK History and Future Museum and its exhibitions were completely renewed. A new “Future Zone” has been added, featuring interactive displays such as the “Smart Mirror,” which uses AI to analyze things like your “smile level” and “estimated age,” and “Future Town 2035,” a diorama enhanced with CG to depict the city of tomorrow. Among the highlights is the “Interactive Magnetic Field Theater,” created in collaboration with ultra-technologist art collective teamLab, where digital imagery that changes when you touch it helps you explore three themes: the universe, Earth, and electronics.

The must-see “History Zone” introduces iconic TDK innovations such as ferrite cores and magnetic tape and uses an extensive archive to trace the evolution of electronic devices.

At the on-site restaurant, you can enjoy lunch dishes featuring local ingredients such as Yuri beef and Shonai soba. After the exhibits or a meal, it’s also worth taking a relaxing stroll around the garden, which offers sweeping 360-degree views of Mount Chokai, the Oga Peninsula, and more.
